A SPIRITUAL HOUSE CLEANING

Psalm 119:9-11


Introduction: The weather in our area has been so beautiful the past several days that many of us have been inspired to take summer house cleaning seriously. It is amazing how much "Stuff" a person can amass in a short while. Not only is this true in our homes, but it is equally true in our spiritual lives. Let us give this summertime to a summer house cleaning that will be pleasing to God and a blessing to ourselves.


ARE YOU IN NEED OF A SPIRITUAL HOUSE CLEANING?


Paul apparently thought so, he wrote, 2 Cor. 7:1, :Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God"


How can a man cleanse his way? "By taking heed according to thy word." Psalm 119:9-11.


Let look at these verses and visualize how to receive A SPIRITUAL HOUSE CLEANING!


I. YOU NEED DESIRE ( v. 9)


A. "Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?"

B. He wants to be clean

1. He is tired of sin

2. He is weary of broken resolutions

C. Can you identify with this desire?

1. Have you found yourself confessing the same sins?

2. Do you long for daily victory?


II. THE SCRIPTURE IS A DETERGENT (v.9)


A. "By taking heed thereto according to thy word"

B. The blood of Christ cleanses us

C. The Bible is to clean up our lives

1. "Now ye are clean through thy word" (John 15:3)

2. "Sanctify them through thy truth" (John 17:17)

3. " the washing of water by the word" (Eph. 5:26)

4. We have powerful detergents on market

a. something to clean up everything

b. stain too tough for modern cleansers

5. No sin too stubborn for the Bible to remove

6. Daily Bible reading is vital to daily victory over sin


III. DECISION TIME (OBEYING TIME) (v. 10)


A. "With my whole heart have I sought thee"

B. The psalmist hears and deeds the message for the cleaning up his life

C. He responds with his "whole heart"

1. No hypocrisy

2. No holding back

D. God calls for total surrender in the deepest part

E. "Thy word have I his in mine heart" (v. 11)

F. You don't want to fall back into the devil's trap

1. You want total victory

2. You, arm yourself with the sword of the Spirit (Word of God)


A SPIRITUAL HOUSE CLEANING

DO YOU LONG TO BE CLEAN?

ARE YOU USING THE DIVINE DETERGENT?

SIN WILL KEEP YOU FROM THE BIBLE

THE BIBLE WILL KEEP YOU FROM SIN
