Sunday Sermon

GOD’S BLESSED MAN FINDS DELIGHT

Psalm 1

Introduction: God is delighted in us when we live a godly life. When we obey His Word!

Many people find delight in candy, donuts, and even eating lobster. Others find delight in watching their favorite sports teams; others find delight in watching a baby cry and smile at the same time. Others find delight in taking a nap and sitting on their Lazy-Boy chair. Others find delight in watching their favorite movie, or a TV show. Others find delight in traveling in their car, or plane, or bus, or a train. Others find joy being with family around the fireplace or camping in a tent or trailer. Others find delight in driving fast in a car or boat. What is your favorite delight?

Delight is a word that expresses pure joy in our hearts and makes us feel good about ourselves. We can experience delight in our hearts as we grow in the WORD! JESUS!

GOD’S BLESSED MAN FIND DELIGHT THROUGH THREE MOVEMENTS!

I.

THE DANGERS TO GOD'S BLESSED MAN

(v. 1)

1. There are detours along the way

2. The threefold danger:

a. Walking in the counsel of the ungodly (The ungodly always are ready to give advice)

b. Standing in the way of sinners

(1) First you listen, then you live)

c. Sitting in the seat of the scornful

(1) Note the progression: first listened, then adopted the standards, now makes fun of God's standards.

II.

THE DELIGHT OF GOD'S BLESSED MAN

(v. 2)

1. His delight is in the law of the Lord.

2. He has learned to make God's Word his delight.

a. To some it is boring, but to him it is blessed.

b. To some it is dull, but to him it is delightful.

c. To some it is fantasy, but to him it is food.

d. To some it is information, but to him it is inspiration.

3. But not many will make God's Word their delight

a. You must move against the tide to do it

b. You must decide to be in the minority

4. David's delighted in God's law (Ps. 119:16, 47, 77)

III.

THE DESTINY OF GOD'S BLESSED MAN

(v. 3)

A. His Position - By the River!

1. Tree planted by the river is never wilted or dry.

2. Tree planted by the river is green, lush and lovely.

3. The believer close to God will never be dry and wilted either.

B. His Prominence - A tree.

1. The life of a successful believer stands above those around him.

2. The life is easily seen when a man draws from the Lord.

3. People will know you have been with Jesus.

C. His Permanence - Planted - Unlike some plants, which live for a season and die out, this tree has sunk its root deep and has a hidden source of life. The value of private prayer and Bible Study.

D. His Productivity - "Brings forth fruit". The successful believer is a blessing to all those around him.

Illustration: Old apple tree in the cow pasture. Man, cows, birds and insects all benefited from the fruit of this old tree. You may never know who is feeding off your life.
