PRAISE HIM

May 17, 2020

SUNDAY SERMON: PRAISING HIM

Scripture: Psalm 113:1 – 9

Introduction: God’s people need to PRAISE HIM for who He is and what He does for us. Praise – an act of worship or acknowledgement by which the virtues or deeds of another are recognized and exalted. The praise of man toward God is the means by which we express our joy to the Lord. We are to praise God both for who He is and for what He does.

Praising God for who He is, called adoration; praising him for what He does is known as thanksgiving.

Why should we praise God?

GOD saved us from sin! God is our salvation!

GOD so loved the world!! God gave His only Begotten Son!

GOD sacrificed JESUS for us!! GOD resurrected JESUS for us!!

GOD has given us Grace!! GOD has shown Mercy on us!!

GOD woke us up this morning! GOD made the morning for us to behold!!

We are able to see the sunlight! GOD made the sun to shine!

We feel the wind blowing! GOD makes the wind to blow!

We can hear the birds singing! GOD wrote the songs that they sing!

HE is our Shepherd and we shall not want!

HE is our light and our salvation whom shall we fear!

HE is food in a starving land!

HE is the Only GOD!!!!!!!

Most of you know I am a big sports’ fan and some of you are as well. Devoted sports’ fans rev it up when the game begins. There is yelling, screaming, praising for their team. All of it is based on who the team is, who the people are, and what the team is doing.

In Psalm 113 calls on all believers to praise the Lord – to root for the home team, if you will. The Psalmist’s reason for praise is similar to that of a sporting event. He invites the people to praise the Lord because of who the Lord is, who they are, and what the Lord is doing.

Before I get into this lesson, let me encourage you to be yourself in praising the Lord. Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to “do it” like anyone else “does it”. Truly, praise is a matter of personality, and whether it engages shouting, crying, laughing, hand raising etc. It is pleasing God!!! Since I gave you that nugget, let’s look at the reasons to praise God.

I.

BECAUSE OF HIS GLORY

v. 4-6

II.

BECAUSE OF HIS GRACE

v. 7

III.

BECAUSE OF HIS GOODNESS

v. 8-9

A. He Cancels Our Pasts – So highly does God elevate the worst of humanity and uses them greatly v. 7 & 8.

B. He Conquers Our Problem – Barren women illustrate despair and distress. Yet, Our Great God blessed Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel to be mothers.
