WE HAVE ABSOLUTE SECURITY IN GOD

Romans 8:33-39

You might remember the tender words from this chorus:

God is so good

God is so good

God is so good

He’s so good to me

Do you believe in your mind that God is good?  Do you believe in your heart, in the deepest recesses of your emotions, that God is good to YOU?  There are many believers who feel that God is good…

·        To those who do good works

·        To those of a certain race or nation

·        To those who are from a certain economic class

·        To those who go to church all the time

·        To those who know how to pray with big words

·        To anyone but themselves

But what does the Bible have to say about God’s goodness?  Why is God good to people?  It is not because people are good.  It is not because people belong to a certain race or nation.  It is not because a person is rich or poor.  It is not because someone gets an award for perfect church attendance.  It is not because someone speaks with great eloquence when he or she prays.  And God is not good to everyone but you.  The Bible teaches in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

What a tremendous blessing for the believer.  We can know with absolute assurance that we have ABSOLUTE SECURITY IN JESUS!  God will work things out for good and will bring good into our lives.  It is crucial that the believer have this knowledge and understanding down deep in his or her heart, that there is ABSOLUTE SECURITY IN JESUS!  Let’s look at three movements that will help us today.

I.                    WE WILL NEVER BE CONDEMNED v. 33-34

A.    A proclamation made v.33 – God is our justifier. This the most glorious truth: God does not charge us with sin.  In fact, He does not lay anything to our charge; He justifies.  Remember; it is just as if we have never sinned.

Note the question:  Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God; only God can charge us with sin and shame.  But not: if we have truly trusted Jesus Christ as Savior, if we are God’s elect, He does not charge us with sin.

B.     A price paid v. 34a – Christ has died for us.  Christ is our glorious Savior.

C.     A plea entered v. 34d – Christ makes intercession for us before throne of God.  He is our great Intercessor, our Mediator and Advocate who stands between God and man.

II.                 WE WILL NEVER BE CONQUERED v. 35-37

“Who [or what] can separate us from the love of God?  Too many people, even believers, feel that God does not love them, that He could not love them.  They feel unworthy of His love, for they come too short, are too disobedient, and fall too often.  How could God possibly love them when they go against His will so much?  The results of such feelings are…

·        A sense of unworthiness                          * an accusing of oneself

·        A downing of oneself                                * a low self- esteem

·        A sense of discouragement                     * a defeated life

Note a crucial point: such feelings totally contradict Scripture.  Look at the verse “Who [or what] can separate us from the love of Christ?”  There is no circumstance, no situation, no event that can cause Christ to turn away from us.  No matter how terrible or severe the situation, it cannot separate the true believer from the love of Christ.

III.               WE WILL NEVER BE CAST OFF v. 38-39

A.    The conviction [or absolute assurance] – “For I am persuaded”.  You and I need to be convinced as well!!

B.     The circumstances v. 38b-39a – These things describe just about all that can happen to anyone in this life.

C.     The conclusion v. 39b – “Nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  We have absolute security in the Lord Jesus Christ!!!

ILLUSTRATION:

It is important for every believer to remember that no matter what comes his or her way, God is in control of the situation.  God is till going to take care of us.  We have absolute security in God’s love.

“The story has been told of a believer, Frederick Nolan, who was fleeing from his enemies during a time of persecution in North Africa.  Pursued by them over hill and valley with no place to hide, he fell exhausted into a wayside cave, expecting his enemies to find him soon.

“Awaiting his death, he saw a spider weaving a web.  Within minutes, the little bug had woven a beautiful web across the mouth of the cave.  The pursuers arrived and wondered if Nolan was hiding there, but on seeing the unbroken and unmingled piece of art, thought it impossible for him to have entered the cave without dismantling the web.  And so, they went on.  Having escaped, Nolan burst and exclaimed:

“‘Where God is, a spider’s web is like a wall,

“‘Where God is not, a wall is like a spider’s web.’ “

There is no need to wonder how God will take care of you; just be assured that he will.

WE HAVE ABSOLUTE SECURITY, BECAUSE!

1.     We will never be condemned v. 33-34

2.     We will never be conquered v. 35-37

3.     We will never be cast off v. 38-39
